Any Alternative after No to Link Building on Article Submission Directories?

This is latest in the series of steps taken by Google in recent past to curb link-building techniques. After the video release, Matt did tweet “No” for building links on article directories. Now, the question probably arises, ‘is this the end of article submission directories?’ No, I don’t think so. What next for those companies who are struggling to improve and fighting to maintain rankings on the search engines? Is it possible to achieve rankings on search engine despite Google’s algorithmic changes of now and then?

Today, I’d like to discuss on how to promote content despite a popular SEO technique, link building facing the severest wrath.

  1. As far as article submission is concerned, why not submit articles on one’s own website. Why submit an article on ezine when I have my own website on ecommerce or CMS to market my products and services? Why depend on external resources to pull my rankings on top?
  2.  If I decide to have articles published on my website, what should be done?

    •  Probably I’ll be using a dedicated sub-domain solely as article publishing site. I can write my own content, integrate images or video and even modify and change as per requirement.
    • Instead of sub-domain, I can provide a separate category (menu) for content publishing on website; posting new content in form of articles or blogs.
    • The third option is the best. Create and host a new website that works as article publishing directory where articles or blogs are published under my name. I’ve authorship rights too.
  1.  In above two cases, I have not emphasized on link building at all. Now what should be done if I don’t use link-building? The best and time-tested alternative in my hand is aggressive content marketing.
  2. At present, the most reliable, most used and most shared platform is social media where I can post as many posts as I want to share. There is no limit. Posts need to be catchy; send out message directly to anyone (who has joined/followed me) so that it is well-understood and shared. Catchy post doesn't really imply text only. It should have hashtagged keywords. Also, sharing images along with content or mere presence of inforgraphics can generate more views and leads and conversions etc. Twitter and Pinterest are viral. While the former can provide a complete story in just 140 characters, latter can keep visitors occupied with the best and unique captures.
  3.  I’d prefer to share videos on YouTube. Videos are lively, people like watching instead of reading. In case you have created a plugin, explain how it works, what purpose it serves, who can use and what you expect to get in return after its use.
  4. Matt has already announced against using links on guest blogs. If I’m guest blogging without any embedded link, will i run for long on the internet? I might not, at least not in the long run.
  5. In my opinion, using an easy to use blogging framework like WordPress could help as it is easy to set up and I can start posting at once.
  6. Use blogspot/blogger for posting blogs or small articles. It works but still remains tight-fisted due to limited number of tools. Here, I’m emphasizing on blogger because it’s a Google product and Google is not leaving any stone unturned to promote its products. It has been promoting Google+ as an alternate of Facebook and God knows, might succeed in near future.

In a nut-shell, I’d say “Link-building using DIR, SBM, Articles, Guest Blogs” is dead. What is left is promotion of quality content that sends out vibrations that “I AM GOOD”.
Let’s see what Matt has to do next…
